Layaways involve multiple payments and often multiple payment types. For this reason it's complex when you add a payment to a layaway by mistake. You can not remove the last payment, the layaway can only be returned and redone. Here are the steps to redo a layaway and not remove any credit card charges.
Refund a layaway that is paid off
1. Go to the transaction tab and double click on the transaction, you'll see a yellow label icon next to it indicating it was a layaway.
You'll want to jot down the items that were on it, ideally you could re-scan them all at checkout (when that time comes) so gather them together if you can.
2. Go to the customer tab, find and double click on the customer that has the layaway. Note how much store credit they have. This is important in the next steps.
3. Go to the Returns tab and return the transaction to store credit.
4. Go to the Checkout tab and scan in all the items that were on the layaway, tie the customer name to the transaction so you can use the correct amount that is needed to put the layaway back like it was before it was paid off by mistake.
5. Go back to the customer tab, zero out the remaining store credit or put the store credit back to what it was in step 2.
Refund a layaway that is still on layaway but a wrong payment was made
1. Go to the customer tab, find and double click on the customer that has the layaway. Note how much store credit they have. This is important in the next steps.
2. Go to the layaway tab and return the items to inventory. When you have the option to refund choose store credit and just refund all the money paid to store credit.
3. Go to the Checkout tab and scan in all the items that were on the layaway, tie the customer name to the transaction so you can use the correct amount that is needed to put the layaway back like it was before the wrong payment was made.
4. Go back to the customer tab, zero out the remaining store credit or put the store credit back to what it was in step 1.
