About Tax Settings

Your Tax Settings are incredibly important to complete before as soon as possible. Each category has a tax category assigned to it that determines the tax rate for the items in that category. There is also the option to mark a category as tax exempt.

It should be noted that the tax will be added at checkout and will not be included in the price printed on the tag/label.

Tax Categories

Tax categories are used to store the tax percentage that should be applied to your items. If you're in an area where you'll have different tax rates for different types of items you'll need a tax category per rate that will be applied.

For example, if all items will have the same tax rate then your tax settings might look like this:

Whereas if you have a different tax for food your tax settings may look like this:

The percentage you enter should include federal, state, county and local taxes combined. They should only be broken apart in scenarios where different percentages will be charged due to the type of inventory being sold.

Add a Tax Category

To add a tax category, click + New Tax Category and name your tax category. Once finished select Save.
Then fill in the tax percentage for the new tax category.

You don't need to add a tax category if you will have tax exempt items as that is a default option to choose from when configuring your taxes on the category level.

Configure Tax Settings on Categories

Be sure to configure your tax categories on your categories as your items will not be taxed at checkout until you do so.

Delete a Tax Category

When you delete a tax category be sure to update your categories as well to ensure your items are properly taxed.
