Price Display Overview

If your store is required to show the price to customers at checkout, you can pair a tablet (or other internet-capable device) with a terminal. We recommend using a tablet on a counter display stand as the dedicated price-display device for the best experience.

Device requirements

The Price Display feature is browser-based — there is no app to install, and no additional software is required. Any internet-capable device with a modern web browser can serve as a price display.

Minimum requirements:

  • Active internet connection (Wi-Fi recommended for reliability)
  • A modern web browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge — current or recent versions)
  • Cookies enabled (pairing is cookie-based)
  • Camera or QR code scanner app (required for the initial pairing step)

Compatible device types:

  • iPad (current or recent iPadOS — older iPads running outdated iOS/Safari versions may not be compatible with current web standards and could fail to pair or display correctly)
  • Android tablet (any model capable of running a current version of Chrome)
  • Laptop or desktop computer with a browser (less common, but functional — for example, a second monitor pointed toward the customer)
  • Any other internet-capable device with a modern browser

Devices that are not compatible:

  • USB and RS-232 pole displays — the feature communicates over the internet rather than through a direct hardware connection, so traditional pole displays are not supported
  • Devices running operating systems that no longer receive browser updates (e.g., devices capped at iOS 12 or earlier)
  • Browsers set to block cookies or running in private/incognito mode by default

Note: If an older device fails to pair while a newer one works fine, OS or browser version is the most likely cause. For the most reliable experience, use a dedicated tablet that you keep plugged in and awake.

Pair a device

  1. Sign in to the Terminal and open the Admin tab.

  2. Click Pair Price Display to open the pairing dialog.

  3.  On the device you want to use as the price display, open the camera (or a QR scanner) and scan the QR code shown on the terminal screen.

  4. When pairing succeeds:

    • The terminal will show a confirmation screen.

    • The device will show the price-display interface.

Note: the device must be active (not locked or asleep) while pairing and whenever you want to display a transaction. (Image: device paired — show example)

During a transaction

When the device is online and a transaction is in progress, the customer will see item and price information update on the paired device in real time.

Reconnect & pair URL

We do not recommend using the price display device for unrelated tasks. If you use the device for other activities and need to reconnect, open:

https://sc-price-display.simpleconsign.live/

Pairing is cookie-based. If you clear the browser cache or reset the device, you’ll need to re-pair.

Device settings (Gear icon)

Click the Gear icon on the Price Display admin settings widget to manage and customize the price-display device.

Behavior tab

Control how the screen behaves after a transaction:

  • Set how many seconds the transaction message remains visible

  • Choose an end-of-transaction animation: None, Fireworks, or Confetti

Example: Screen shown after a transaction with the above configuration; it clears after 10 seconds and displays no animation:

Devices tab

View and manage devices that have been paired to this terminal:

  • Connected — shows active devices.

  • Disconnected — shows devices that are not currently online.

To re-pair a device, open the Devices tab and follow the pairing steps above.

Troubleshooting (quick tips)

  • If the display shows Disconnected, confirm the device is awake, connected to the internet, and the pairing page is open.

  • Ensure the device browser allows cookies (pairing is cookie-based).

  • If an older device won't pair while a newer one does, the device's OS or browser version is likely the cause. Consider replacing it with a current-generation tablet.

  • For best reliability, use a dedicated tablet and keep it plugged in and awake.

Note: This feature is available with all SimpleConsign plans.
